You cannot Afford to Rush
You cannot afford to rush the process of building, shipping, [insert whatever you like here]
On Linkedin I talked about this in the context of GTM, but think this applies well to doing anything and the text below applies especially well to doing trying to create anything on the internet. Please enjoy.
You cannot afford to rush your GTM motion
But you should 80/20 it.
And you definitely should do everything you can to have a high iteration tempo.
What's the difference?
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
Here is how I am thinking about methodical execution and depth > unforced rushing and how to leverage it to drive value creation.
When you rush you make mistakes, you cannot effectively reflect on feedback and are always on backfoot reacting rather than acting
This whole game is a race to the bottom. Whatever your niche, it is very difficult to not get caught up in optimizing for short term wins
We are all collectively burning the commons (myself included) via endless sales automation optimization. Each new cold emailing edge is commoditized and washed out in 3 months, each new trigger is hammered so hard it drives a reaction from leads or their inbox/phone.
How many spam calls do you get now? And how many are automatically flagged and muted? This is my own anecdotal experience, but I get about 5x-7x (not exaggerating) now. This is true for every single channel for both marketing and sales, for b2b and b2c, the signal to noise ratio is shifting broadly to mostly noise.
We are all running on and creating the power to generate our collective hedonic treadmill. Now I think it could argued that GTM this is in part merely a symptom of a larger society-level hedonic treadmill (but that is a philosophical discussion for another day) but I want to ask, where is this going?
My bet:
internet and open prospecting channels will be washed out. Too much noise for any signal
Everything will be filtered either by your direct network's referrals or LLM driven search that will compare and contrast every possible option for whatever you need in 20 mins (I think deep research actually has farther to go than many currently believe but this is easy to imagine)
The value/alpha will be mostly in small group chats, slack groups, discords etc.
So this is the case for slowing down. It is not just a nice sounding quote and from a cool Special Forces (SEALs) source, it is a legitimate competitive edge to
deploy.
Go deeper: gather more sales intel data points, do deeper researcher, synthesize deeper insight, test methodically and at a high ship rate - which btw is not rushing :)
I could be totally wrong, (I think most likely I am just too early) but this is how I am thinking about GTM and the internet in general for this year and beyond.
Also side note: one other quote I found with this sentiment when I was researching to make sure I attributed it correctly is from Napoleon:
To his valet:
Dress me slowly, I’m in a hurry.
